Craft provides a fun and productive way to address your child’s development. The creation of small gifts and attractive articles will boost self esteem and independence while mastering tools and skills.

Fine motor skills such as whole-hand grasping and the pincer grasp (necessary skills for writing) are employed in using equipment and materials to make craft objects. Craft projects with Coach Caroline will advance motor skills through learning to knit and sew toys and garments; beading projects and making models out of recycled materials such as cars and buildings.

Sensory stimulation will be experienced through the textures and colours of materials from card to wool or fabric. Develop a sense of style and manipulation of materials as crafting provides a visual explosion of colors, patterns, tones and shades.

Literacy skills can be part of crafting too. From reading a pattern to learning the names of different tools and materials.

Cognitive development is all about intellectual skills such as remembering and analyzing information and predicting outcomes. By asking open-ended questions about what you have already done and what they think you should do next, you are helping them think through the processes of creating an object.

Coach Caroline will help you child select appropriate projects delivering a sense of achievement and pride.

A 2007 study conducted by Harvard Medical School’s Mind and Body Institute, found that knitting lowers heart rate, by an average of 11 beats per minute, and induces an “enhanced state of calm,” similar to that of yoga.
